OPERATIONS

NOC

A centralized team or facility that monitors, manages, and responds to issues across an organization's network infrastructure, typically operating 24/7. A NOC handles availability and performance; a SOC handles security.

IN PRACTICE

When a circuit drops at 2 a.m., the NOC sees the alert, triages the cause, opens a ticket with the carrier, and notifies the customer before the morning. Many mid-market organizations contract NOC services to a managed partner rather than staff one in-house.
