NETWORKING

Latency

The time it takes for data to travel from source to destination, usually measured in milliseconds. Low latency matters most for real-time applications like voice, video, and trading.

IN PRACTICE

A video call with 30ms of latency feels natural; at 300ms, people start talking over each other. SD-WAN steers latency-sensitive traffic over the lowest-latency path.
