COMPLIANCE

E911

The set of regulations and technical capabilities that require voice service providers to deliver caller location information to emergency responders when a 911 call is placed. For VoIP and UCaaS, this is non-trivial because the device may not be in a fixed location.

IN PRACTICE

A distributed workforce on UCaaS requires that every endpoint reports a dispatchable location (street address plus unit or floor) so that when an employee dials 911, the local PSAP can dispatch responders to the right place. RAY BAUM's Act and Kari's Law govern the requirements in the US.
